How to Write an Effective About US Page for Your Website or Blog?

The about page, is one of the most important pages on any website or blog. Because that’s the page, that’s page that where visitors to checkout, to learn more about you and what you do, and who you are…

That’s the page, where you can show your readers that you are the expert on your field, and that you know what you talking about, and also this serves as a great opportunity to build rapport and connection with your readers, and make them feel that they know you better now, so you can become more liked and respected.

And to add to the above, the about page, is a great place, to talk about your achievement in your area of expertise, and how you get things done, or what you got done so far.

And if you don’t do a good job on your about page, your prospect will be confused about who you are, what you do, and what kinda person you are. They won’t feel confident about you, and that you got it, and that you know what you talking about, also, you will fail to build rapport with your readers, by show them the human side of you, and you will be less liked and respected, because they don’t know who you are to begin with.

And finally, if you don’t do a good job on your about page, you will fail to list your accomplishments, and you will fail to prove to your audience, that you are an achiever.

The about page, should be the only page, that’s dedicated about you, everything else on your website or blog should be dedicated about your reader or your audience, it is the page that your readers get a chance to know who you are..

Here are 10 tips for your about page:

1) Offer your name, if you can, and if you can’t use a pen name.

If you decide to choose a pen name, make sure that you stick with it.

2)Include a photo. People like to see who they’re dealing with, or who to deal with? . Make sure that you smile in that photo, and present yourself, as a trustworthy person. If there’s more than one person behind the website, make sure that you include photos a photo of all of them, and a brief description on what they do.

3)Don’t write in second person format, make it personable, use I, when talking about yourself, and You, Your when talking to your reader, don’t use he or she. Also talk about your hobbies, and what you like to do for work and for fun, to establish more rapport with your readers.

4)Keep it up to date, with everything you are doing, if you have an address, and you moved, then update the new address, if you have a phone number and the number change or email has changed, make sure that you update that.. Make it easy for people to know you..

5)Think about your reader’s needs, even though you are talking about yourself, some how if you can focus on the reader’s need and frustration, and what you can do to help them, get what they want, and achieve what they desire.

6)Keep it straight to the point, and cut the fluff, that’s not needed, make sure it can be read in 1 minutes or less, if you feel like talking more about yourself, may be you can create a separate page, called “Bio” and link to it from the about page, now you are giving your reader the option if they want to know MORE about you, then they can go read your bio.

7)Add a clear call to action, so tell them what you want them to do, after reading about you. May be you can say email me now, or call me now, leave a comment, and make it easy for them, to do, what they want them to do. If you ask them to Like You on facebook, make sure that there is a Like Button there.

Hope the above, was convincing enough to write a great about page for yourself on your new website or blog, or spend few minutes to update the one that you currently have, so go do it, and let your readers, know you, and connect, with you better, and by the way, if you got a facebook page, or twitter, make sure that you include it, on your about page.
